What is the Lotus project?
The lotus is one of the symbols of India, the home of yoga. Lotuses take root in the mud and their long stems rise to the surface of the water towards the sun. For the people of India, this is a metaphor for life: from the dark mud we move towards a more conscious life.
The Lotus Project is focuses on migrants and refugees and aims to contribute to their well-being and
mental health.
It mobilises not only the practice of yoga but also poetic writing. Lotus proposes a method that combines these two
disciplines for the benefit of migrants and refugees, with the aim of giving them the tools to practice and share it with others.
The project addresses at migrants and refugees hosted by partner organisations in the three associated countries
(France, Greece and Germany). It aims to inspire youth workers, artists and yoga teachers by offering them methodological tools under an open licence.
Migrants and refugees who benefit from the Lotus Method can also be certified. If they wish, they can then become facilitators of the method.
At Lotus Project we are dedicated to supporting immigrants and refugees through creative and empowering methods. Our mission focuses on improving mental health, building new skills and promoting economic inclusion. We are here to:
Increase awareness, mental health and new skills in immigrants and refugees through yoga, tales, and poetry.
Offer artists and youthworkers working with migrants-refugees groups new methods and skills to run activities with them.
Enable economic inclusion and employability of migrants-refugees.
Offer an innovative methodology addressed to migrants and refugees which will provide the opportunity of learning new knowledge and skills through yoga, tales and poetry.
Publish and promote this method in the partners countries and in Europe.
